ready, set, research!
We are starting our research unit on Monday, March 7. This unit will end the week of April 4 with an argumentative essay and a speech. Research is difficult (and messy), but Ms. Collins (our amazing teacher librarian), Mrs. Rakis, and I have developed a unit that will help you navigate the murky waters of research. I strongly believe that being able to do research well is the most important skill for success in college, and I hope that this unit will provide you with skills and knowledge to take with you once you leave Clovis North. Here is what you can expect to learn during our research unit:
1. How to choose a topic and narrow it down.
2. How to develop a good research question.
3. How to develop focal points to help you answer your research question.
4. How to choose sources and take notes from those sources.
5. How to organize your notes and create an outline for your essay and speech.
6. Continuing to work on MLA in-text citing and works cited page.
7. Working on public speaking skills.
After April 8, stay tuned for George Orwell's 1984!
